HomeUncategorisedRally in Calgary to keep Castle Park open

The Eastern Slopes Society is hosting a rally in downtown Calgary at the McDougall Center on March 4th from 12:00pm to 2:00pm.  The event is being held to bring awareness to the governments recently announced Castle Park in SW Alberta, and the proposed phasing out of Off Highway Vehicles (OHV’s) and random camping.

As responsible users and members of clubs and organizations that have dedicated thousands of volunteer hours and collectively millions of dollars to infrastructure in the Castle and Eastern Slopes areas of Alberta, we are encouraging our government to re-establish their previous commitment to allow OHV’s and random camping in the Castle area and to come up with a plan that allows for these activities to occur in a managed and sustainable manner.  These allowable uses were acknowledged in the South Saskatchewan Regional Plan and were recognized as needing to continue based upon the public feedback that occurred during the planning.  Our position is that the government needs to effectively accommodate and manage these users, rather than shutting them out.
